On February 7, 1949, a precious baby boy was born to the union of Roosevelt Turner and Mabel Lucille Harriet Brown Turner in Houston, Texas. They named him Donald Wayne Turner a.k.a. Don. He was the fifth of eight children.
In 1995, Don accepted Christ under the leadership of Pastor L. N. Barksdale at Fifth Ward Missionary Baptist Church. Even though he began having numerous health issues, he continued to believe in the Lord with unwavering faith. As a true believer, he leaned on God whole-heartedly even when his health was failing.
He attended Charles Atherton Elementary School. In 1967, he graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School. From there he went to Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas and received a Bachelor in Business Administration in Accounting in 1974. He worked as a substitute teacher, auditor, and tax preparer before he began his career at Southern Pacific Railroad. Due to health challenges he retired early. Donald departed this life for a new beginning on Tuesday, May 12, 2020.
Donald was preceded in death by parents Roosevelt and Mabel Turner, sister Deloris Turner; Roosevelt Turner Jr., Melvin Turner, Carolyn Grace Turner; maternal grandparents Charlie Lonzo Brown and Gracie Alderson Brown and paternal grandparents Sam Turner and Maggie Turner; nephews Tony Criswell, Roosevelt Turner III and Clement Turner.
